Two new ventilation enclosures hit the crime scene...

For many years forensic scientists have depended on Labconco’s Fume Hoods and Biological Safety Cabinets to provide safe working environments in their labs. With the addition of the new CApture Portable Fuming System and Protector Downdraft Powder Station forensic products, Labconco now provides specialized forensic ventilation equipment needed by law enforcement and crime labs.

The CApture Portable Fuming System was developed in response to requests from CSI personnel who wanted an easy, safe way to secure fingerprints on evidence at the scene. By developing and fixing the fingerprints at the crime scene, investigators can be assured that the prints will not be smudged or lost in transportation back to the crime lab.

The CApture develops and fixes fingerprints using the CA (cyanoacrylate) or Super Glue fuming method. In this method CA is heated to produce fumes and the fumes react with the water and oils left from fingers to form a white film that makes invisible fingerprints visible. Once developed, these fingerprints cannot be easily smudged or removed.

The CApture Portable Fuming System is unique because the complete, ductless fuming system is designed to fit into a single 19" x 11" x 9" chamber for ease of transportation and portability. The clear fuming chamber with a unique rack and shelving system can accommodate a wide variety of objects.

A two-stage filter designed specifically for capturing CA fumes is included in each CApture Portable Fuming System. When fuming with the CApture, a fume hood is not required and personnel are protected from harmful CA fumes.

The Protector Downdraft Powder Station is designed specifically for the messy powders used when dusting of fingerprints. The ductless design incorporates a stainless steel work surface and a HEPA filter optimized to capture nuisance powders. Because the design does not include a restricting top or sides, it can easily accommodate large and odd-shaped pieces of evidence.

The Protector Downdraft Powder Station is available in 2' and 3' models. With the addition of a transition accessory, multiple stations can be joined together to form larger work areas of unlimited widths.
